NAMPA, Idaho - The top-ranked Oregon women got off to a great start in the mile prelims with all three entrants - Jordan Hasay, Anne Kesselring and Becca Friday - advancing to Saturday's final at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
In the first heat, Friday appeared to be in trouble, fading to fifth place with two laps remaining, but kicked it in on the final lap to earn fourth place in 4:41.03. The top four finishers in each heat automatically advance.
In the second heat, defending champion Jordan Hasay led wire-to-wire with a first-place finish in 4:41.23. Anne Kesselring was fourth at 4:42.34.
OSU's Laura Carlyle, the first Beaver female to compete in this meet since the school dropped the program in 1988, was sixth in 4:46.93 and failed to advance.
