DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) ? A lawyer says a jailed American businessman has ended his 7-week hunger strike after authorities agreed to set bail for his release.
Attorney Eric Akers said his client Zack Shahin told him he started eating again Thursday. Akers said a Dubai judge set conditions for his pretrial release on bail Wednesday.
The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed that Shahin must pay a bail of 5 million dirhams ($1.4 million) as one of the conditions for his release.
Shahin faces trial in a number of cases tied to allegations of corruptions in the Gulf emirate. He has denied any improprieties and began a hunger strike on May 14 to demand that authorities hear his case.
